Key Elements of Visual Art
- Point: The smallest element in any visual.
- Line: A visible path joining two points; can vary in style and thickness.
- Shape: A flat, two-dimensional area enclosed by a line; can be geometric or organic.
- Form: A three-dimensional shape that occupies space and has depth.
- Texture: Can be visual or physical; sensed by touch or perceived visually.
- Colour: Visible when light is reflected; can be natural or synthetic.
- Value/Tone: The lightness or darkness of a colour; created by adding white (tints) or black (shades).
- Space: The organization of elements in an artwork, divided into positive and negative space.
Principles of Visual Art and Design
- Unity and Harmony: Elements combined pleasingly.
- Balance: Visual stability through symmetrical or asymmetrical arrangements.
- Rhythm and Movement: Guides the viewer's eye through patterns and repetition.
